Art is life and life in itself is art

Sketchbook 10.May 01

In this entry theres no digital artwork, only sketches drawn on paper. Not because I wanted to dedicate it to only traditionally drawn content, though that would be nice, it’s simply because lately I haven’t really done much digitally that I’ve felt worth showing off.
And as you can see my craze for drawing eyes continues, what can I say… I like eyes. :D
But also I’m getting quite good at the topology and structure of the eye, and enjoy drawing them therefore.

As always, enjoy!

  1. Having some friends over one weekend, one of them asked me to draw “the most beautiful thing you know”, and so drawing from memory using what I remember from drawing my “Iridescent” eye illustration I drew this eye. Not at all as spectacular as my Iridescent eye of course I was still quite surprised at how much of the structure and topology of that eye I remembered (It was drawn 2 weekends after “Iridescent”), it was like something said “click” in my mind and I suddenly realized how to I should draw better from my own memory. And due to that this image hold a certain value to me. And also, of course it is not the “most beautiful thing I know”, it just seemed like a fitting thing to draw upon that request.
  2. This one I drew at my dad’s place the weekend following that on which I drew 1#, I wanted to test and see how much I had remembered since then. Though its leftside corner turned out too large I am still quite pleased as of how much of it’s “correct structure” I could recall and draw.
  3. This is my friends eye that I drew for her this weekend during a party I held (of topic; as it is somewhat of a tradition here to party on our celebration day of the coming of May). And keep close in mind that I was drunk while drawing this (haha), so due to this the eye is not that “refined” and more sketchy and rough than I usually would allow my drawings to be. I also “speed painted” this, minding not so much to make each pencil stroke perfect but rather capturing the eye quickly.
  4. Two other eyes I drew this weekend during this party of mine. I’m really amazed that the upper eye turned out so well for having been draw with just a normal blue inked writing pen, and also while being drunk.
  5. This sketch is somewhat older, perhaps 2-3 months. It was a quick conceptual thing I drew for a kind of “artificial hand”, steampunk robot style.
  6. Not much to say, I had a go at drawing a character without reference.
  7. “Headless horseman finds finds his long lost sword!”… nah, just kidding. Just some character sketch I drew with a more “dramatic pose”, and I’m pleased with how the pose of the torso and the arm turned out… and the sword, eh not so much. And he’s missing a head simply because I couldn’t really seem to draw a fitting one, so I ended up with letting it be like that thinking that I would just mess it up otherwise.
